Across the Universe event to be held April 4
CASS LAKE -- The Leech Lake Tribal College STEM department will host the 4th annual Across the Universe event, from 4:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, at Leech Lake Tribal Colleges’ Campus, 6945 Little Wolf Road NW. This event is free and open to the public. A pasta feast will be served at 5 p.m.
Across the Universe opens a window into the world of science, technology, engineering, math and its connection to Anishinaabe life. The community is invited to this showcase that will expose the power of science with hands-on activities and demonstrations from students, community members and scientists. Although many of the activities are geared toward high-school students, this free event is for the whole family.
Participants can enjoy demonstrations from the students of Bemidji State University on how to create slime that changes color with temperature. Programs from the Headwaters Science Center will provide a close-up view of live raptors with an Ojibwe storyteller, while the Starlab will demonstrate constellations from the Ojibwe perspective. Rockets, virtual reality and a feast will help round out the evening.
