Treuer named to State Historical Society's executive council
Anton Treuer, a professor of Ojibwe at Bemidji State University and a high-profile American Indian academic, was named in October to the Minnesota Historical Society's Executive Council.
Treuer is one of five new members on the 27-person board, which establishes the historical society's policy; monitors its programs, services; and budget, and more. He is editor of the Oshkaabewis Native Journal, the only academic journal of the Ojibwe language.
Treuer has received more than 40 awards and fellowships, including from the American Philosophical Society, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Science Foundation, the MacArthur Foundation, the Bush Foundation, and the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation.
