Donald "Duke" Scott, 71, of Laporte, died Friday, March 14, at his home. A celebration of his life will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home in Bemidji.
Donald Harry Scott was born Sept. 30, 1936, in Bracken, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Walter A. and Emma Oben Scott. In 1944, the family moved to Bemidji. After attending school, "Duke" moved to Minneapolis and went to work at Johnson Brothers Construction. In November 1966 he married Lori Sorensen. He continued to work for Johnson Brothers until retiring as a foreman in 1993. He then went to work for Blaine Brothers Trucking. In 1995, he completely retired and moved to Laporte. During these years, Duke enjoyed going to auction sales, tinkering, spending time with his grandchildren and hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his four children; Korrine Scott of Parkers Prairie, Minn., Katie Nealey of Sartell, Minn., Keith (Sara) Scott of Red Wing, Minn., and Kristopher Scott of New London, Minn.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; brother, Walter "Dick" (Polly) Scott of Aumsville, Ore.; and sister Helen Fiskum of Bemidji.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; and a nephew.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
