THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. --Digi-Key, a electronic components distributor based in Thief River Falls, is expected to hit a milestone later this year.
The company is closer to shipping its 50-millionth package, with a live counter on its website showing 49.8 million shipped packages as of Wednesday afternoon. Digi-Key expects to hit 50 million in the first full week of December, said Kevin Brown, the company's vice president of global brand management.
Brown said the company, founded in 1972, hasn't previously recognized the number of packages it has shipped.
"Somebody asked one day, 'How long have we been doing this, how many packages do you think we've shipped?'" Brown said. "So we did some homework and it's like, 'Huh, we're coming up on 50 million.'"
Digi-Key is also recognizing "key customers" in regions across for helping the company reach the milestone, Brown said. The company employs more than 3,400 around the world, almost all of them in Thief River Falls.
