Dale Eastman Schmidt, 63, of Bemidji, died on Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Bemidji with Rev. Dean Nelson officiating. Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home in Bemidji and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Burial will be in the spring in Alaska Township Cemetery, Alaska Township, Beltrami County.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Hope (Schmidt) Riccio, Chase Schmitt, Mercedies Schmidt, Brady Schmidt, Trenton Schmidt, Harley Kroening and Tyler Kroening.

He was born on Nov. 7, 1942, to Paul and Lois (Thomas) Schmidt, in Pleasant Valley, Alaska Township, Beltrami County. He grew up and attended school in Pleasant Valley and graduated from Bemidji High School. He married Connie Nelson on Dec. 30, 1961, in Pleasant Valley, Alaska Township. They lived in Bemidji where he worked at Tim's Implement, Land-O-Lakes Creamery, Taystee Bread and Old Dutch Foods. In early 1980s, he purchased an insurance agency from Conrad Nelson. This became the Dale Schmidt Agency that he owned and operated until 2002 at which time he sold it to his daughter.

He enjoyed golfing, hunting, motorcycle riding, hobby farming, spending time at the cabin and enjoying many activities with his family. He spent his winters in Arizona.

He is survived by his wife of Bemidji; daughters, Shelley (Mark) Schmitt of Bemidji and Dawn (Gary) Kroening of Bemidji; son, Terry Schmidt of Bemidji; seven grandchildren; and brothers, Gary (Donna) Schmidt of Wilton and Reed (Patti) Schmidt of Atwater, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and step-father, Alvin Kluzak.

In Lieu of flowers, family prefers memorials to the American Lung Association.
