BRAHAM, Minn. — Authorities say a carjacking suspect was shot dead Sunday, Feb. 21, near Braham after a police pursuit and an Anoka Police Department K9 named Bravo was shot and injured.

A second suspect was arrested uninjured. Authorities said Bravo underwent surgery and KMSP-TV reported Sunday night that he was in stable condition.

During a news conference Sunday night, Blaine Police Chief Brian Podany gave the following details of the incident that began shortly before 1 p.m. at a Kohl’s parking lot at 10311 Baltimore St. NE in Blaine:

Police responding to a report of a theft at Kohl’s learned that the two suspects had fled in a stolen vehicle and then abandoned the vehicle at a nearby business and carjacked another driver at gunpoint.

At some point, a Blaine officer was hurt and hospitalized with minor injuries, Podany said.

The suspects then fled north on Minnesota 65 with police in pursuit.

The stolen vehicle became disabled on 65 just north of Minnesota 107 near Braham.

Two men fled the vehicle and shots were fired, Podany said.

One of the suspects was fatally shot, and Bravo was shot and injured.

The second suspect was taken into custody without injuries. A gun was recovered at the scene, Podany said.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating.
