MINNEAPOLIS — A body was found in the Mississippi River near Fort Snelling on Sunday morning, authorities say.
A passerby called 911 about 9:20 a.m. Sunday to report a possible body in the river near 54th Street and Minnehaha Park Drive, according to a press release from the Hennepin County sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office water patrol division was able to use a boat to recover the body. It was turned over to the Hennepin County medical examiner’s office, which will release the person’s identity and cause of death at a later time.
“Our investigators will be working with the medical examiner’s staff to determine how the body ended up in the river,” Hennepin County Sheriff Dave Hutchinson said. “Our condolences go out to the friends and family who lost a loved one.”
