MOORHEAD — A man who allegedly coughed on an employee at a Moorhead grocery store and made comments blaming racial minorities for spreading coronavirus was arrested Wednesday, April 1.
Officers responded to a report of a disturbance at Cash Wise Foods on U.S. Highway 10 in Moorhead about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. According to Moorhead police Capt. Deric Swenson, a man who was shopping at the store coughed on an employee, prompting the employee to back away.
When another employee approached the two to assist, the shopper said racial minorities were to blame for the coronavirus crisis, Swenson said. The employees were reportedly African American and of Asian descent.
Officers found the man down the street from the store and arrested him for disorderly conduct. He also faces a terroristic threat charge after threatening an officer while being brought to jail, Swenson said.
The man, who refused to identify himself to officers when they found him near the store, has not been identified by police.
