Minnesota man sentenced to 10 years in prison for stabbing victim's ear

MITCHELL, S.D. — A Minnesota man was sentenced to 10 years in the South Dakota State Penitentiary for assaulting a Mitchell woman.

Eustace Miles, 50, of Moorhead pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in 2017 for punching the victim, hitting her with an extension cord and belt. He also stabbed a pair of scissors into the victim's ear, puncturing her eardrum, in July 2016.

Miles must pay $5,161.97 in fines, court costs and restitution to the victim.

Judge Chris Giles also ordered Miles to pay future medical expenses for the victim's anticipated surgery for her eardrum and for any future counseling over the next 18 months.

Miles was sentenced to 15 years in prison, with five years suspended.
