Li Conklin has participated in the Concordia Language Villages program by attending a two-week session at Sēn Lín Hú, the Chinese Language Village, located near Callaway. Conklin is the son of Becky Martin and Paul Conklin, Solway and will be a 10th grader at Trek North this fall.
By attending Sen Lín Hú, the Chinese Language Village, Conklin experienced a simulated visit to another country. Conklin was issued a passport, exchanged currency and adopted a new name. By interacting with staff from all over the world, Conklin also learned about the many opportunities available to those who speak more than one language. Conklin was immersed in the language and culture of another country through large and small learning groups, authentic foods, holiday celebrations, re-enactments of historic events, songs, dances, crafts, games and everyday conversations.
