Cobenais appointed to state steering committee

Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton recently appointed Jerald Cobenais of Red Lake as the Red Lake Band of Ojibwe delegate to the Minnesota Tribal Youth Gathering Steering Team.

Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton recently appointed Jerald Cobenais of Red Lake as the Red Lake Band of Ojibwe delegate to the Minnesota Tribal Youth Gathering Steering Team.

The team will meet monthly, beginning in January in St. Paul to plan a Tribal Youth Gathering Conference scheduled for July. The conference will consist of many subjects of concern to native youth from all over the state, with an emphasis on education.

Cobenais, 23, has been a member of the Red Lake Youth Council since he was a sophomore in high school, now approaching eight years. He currently serves as the Youth Council coordinator.
