Clifford A. Millar, 89, of Bagley, formerly of Shevlin, died on Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at Clearwater County Memorial Hospital in Bagley.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Clearwater Lutheran Church in Shevlin with the Rev. Linda G. Tenneson officiating. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. today at Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Bagley City Cemetery in Bagley. Military rites will be accorded by members of the Irvin Blix American Legion Post No. 16 of Bagley.

He was born on Nov. 15, 1916, to John and Julia (Olson) Millar, near Shevlin. He was baptized at his parent's home and confirmed at Clearwater Lutheran Church in Shevlin. He was raised near Shevlin and attended District 3 School. He served in the Army from 1941-1945. He was a rifleman in the infantry and served in the southwest Pacific. After the war, he moved back to Shevlin and did wood hauling for Borgerding Lumber Co. in the winter and worked for Butler Construction in North Dakota in the summer. In 1968, he took over the family farm, where he farmed, planed and sawed lumber. In 2003, he retired and moved to the Otterkill Apartments in Bagley.

He was a member of the Irvin Blix American Legion Post No. 16 of Bagley. He loved gardening and helping his neighbors. He was very honest, tender-hearted and independent.

He is survived by sisters, Frances Malterud of Becida, Joyce Chapman of Cloquet, Minn., and Dorothy Traaseth of Bagley; brother, John (Elaine) Millar of Fargo, N.D.; numerous nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, James and Gary.
