BRAINERD -- The report received by the Brainerd Police Department on Sunday of a needle found in Halloween candy has been determined to be false.

The Brainerd Police Department initially issued an alert on the police department Facebook page that there was a report a child had received Halloween candy with a sewing needle in the candy. This was reportedly from candy received while trick-or-treating in the Brainerd area on Halloween night.

Further investigation by the police department revealed that the child involved had fabricated the incident.

"The Brainerd Police Department wants to dispel any public safety concerns there may be. Authorities in our area have received no other reports of any tampering with candy or immediate concerns or dangers," Police Chief Corky McQuiston said in a news release Monday afternoon.

Because of the protective and sensitive nature of investigations involving juveniles, police will not be releasing any additional information about this case.
