CASS LAKE-A Cass Lake man was arrested Thursday for allegedly taking cash from a local bank.
Rex Basswood Jr., 26, is being held at the Cass County Detention Center awaiting formal charges. Arraignment in Cass County District Court is scheduled for Monday.
The Cass County Sheriff's Office received a call at 9:33 a.m. Thursday from staff at Western Bank, 210 Second St. NW in Cass Lake, that a suspicious man was in the bank and causing a disturbance. Officers from the Leech Lake Tribal Police Department arrived and saw Basswood leaving the bank, a release from the Cass County Sheriff's Office said.
Basswood fled and a officers chased on foot, arresting him near a Cass Lake home. The initial investigation indicates Basswood took an undisclosed amount of cash from the bank, the release said. The investigation is ongoing by the Leech Lake Tribal Police Department and the Cass County Sheriff's Office.
