Jarrett Burns, 2014 graduate of Kelliher High School, recently became a Certified Aviation Rescue Swimmer with the United States Navy. Burns enlisted himself in the Navy towards the end of his senior year of high school. Rather than attend college, Burns planned to to become an Aviation Rescue Swimmer in the Naval Special Warfare/Naval Special Operations. He began his own physical training in order to pass the minimum Navy Physical Screening Test (PST) requirements for Navy Challenge Programs.
Successfully passing his PST’s, he attended boot camp in Great Lakes Illinois and graduated May 1. His division 810 was placed in the Navy Hall of Fame. On May 2, he was transferred to Pensacola, Fla. to begin training in what is considered to be one of the most physically and mentally demanding military training programs in existence.
His class started with 20 sailors and ended with only 13 sailors.
On Oct. 16, Burns graduated as a Certified Aviation Rescue Swimmer with the United States Navy.
