Minnesota State's Kala Buganski scored two goals to help lift the Mavericks over the Bemidji State women's hockey team 4-1 at the John S. Glas Fieldhouse Friday evening.

Minnesota State scored four unanswered goals to take a 4-0 lead and coast to a 4-1 Western Collegiate Hockey Association win.

Buganski took a pass from Lindsay Macy and skated in on Bemidji State goalie and clanked one off the far post for the game's first goal.

Minnesota State increased it's lead in the second period as the Mavericks put up three goals in the period to push it's lead to 4-0. Christina Lee started the scoring for the Mavericks as she picked up a loose rebound in front of the net and tapped the puck past Brookshaw for her 13th goal of the season. Ashley Young picked up the lone helper.

Ida Clark took an interference penalty at 11:27 of the second period to give the Beavers its first power-play opportunity of the night. The power-play opportunity turned into offense for the Mavericks as Buganski scored a short-handed goal just 17 seconds into the Bemidji State power-play. Maggie Fisher picked up her 12th assist on the goal.

The Mavericks then scored on the power play as Noelle Needham found the net at 17:52 of the period to record the Mavericks third goal of the period and her eighth goal of the season. Lee took a slap shot that trickled through the pads of Brookshaw and Needham was there to poke the loose puck into the net and push the Mavericks' lead to 4-0 late in the second period.

Jessica Ptachick replaced Brookshaw in net for the Beavers at the start of the third period. This is Ptachick's third appearance this season and her second relief appearance in the last five games.

Bemidji State broke up the shutout just 30 seconds into the final frame. Tara Hiscock was able to net the Beavers lone goal of the contest, her fourth goal of the season to bring the score to 4-1. Picking up the helpers on the goal was Lisa Kissick and Jamie LeDuc.
