For the fifth consecutive season, the Bemidji State men's ice hockey program leads College Hockey America in the number of skaters named to the annual Academic All-CHA squad.

BSU placed 14 skaters on the 58-man 2007 Academic All-College Hockey America squad, continuing BSU's historical domination of the league-wide academic honor roll.

Robert Morris and Wayne State tied for second place behind BSU with 12 Academic All-CHA selections apiece; Niagara was narrowly fourth with 11 honorees and Ala.-Huntsville had nine skaters named to the honor roll.

To earn placement on the CHA All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have completed at least one year of residency at his present institution prior to the current academic year. The student-athlete must have a grade-point average of at least 3.00 (based on a 4.00 scale) for the previous two semesters or three quarters, or an overall GPA of at least 3.00 for all terms at his present institution. The student-athlete must be both academically and athletically eligible to compete during the present season.

Bemidji State's 2007 Academic All-College Hockey America honorees are:

G Orlando Alamano (Fresno, Calif.; 2nd honor); F Jake Bluhm (Red Wing, 2nd); D Cody Bostock (Salmon Arm, British Columbia; 1st); G Matt Climie (Leduc, Alberta; 2nd); D David Deterding (Alexandria; 2nd); F Luke Erickson (Roseau; 3rd); F Brandon Marino (Riverside, Calif.; 2nd); F Ryan Miller (Fergus Falls; 3rd); F Matt Pope (Langley, British Columbia; 2nd); F Garrett Roth (Cary, Ill.; 3rd); D Nathan Schwartzbauer (Wasilla, Alaska; 3rd); G Layne Sedevie (Bismarck, N.D.; 3rd); D Riley Weselowski (Pilot Mound, Manitoba; 2nd) and F Travis Winter (St. Cloud, Minn.; 1st).

Erickson, Miller, Roth, Schwartzbauer and Sedevie joined an exclusive group of just 16 three-time Academic All-CHA selections in BSU history. The group of five three-time Academic All-CHA honorees is the largest at BSU in any single year; BSU had four skaters become three-time academic all-conference selections in 2004.

Since setting a CHA record with 16 Academic All-CHA honorees in 2002-03, BSU has led College Hockey America in Academic All-CHA honorees each season. BSU tied its 2003 record with 16 honorees in 2004; led CHA with 14 academic selections in 2005; and again tied its own league record with 16 academic honorees a year ago. In total, BSU has piled up 83 Academic All-CHA selections in six years under current head coach Tom Serratore, far and away the most in CHA.

Niagara is a distant second with 66 during the same six-year time frame.

BSU's 14-member Academic All-CHA class for 2007 brings the total of Beaver skaters honored for their academic efforts by CHA to 90 since the league's inception for the 1999-2000 season.

Bemidji State finished its 2006-07 regular season with a record of 14-13-5 and finished second in College Hockey America at 9-6-5. The Beavers open play at the 2007 CHA Tournament on Saturday when they face off with Robert Morris in the tournament's second semifinal contest. BSU is the No. 2 seed in the Tournament while Robert Morris is the No. 3 seed after a 13-18-2 regular season and a 9-10-1 finish against CHA opponents.

The Beavers and Colonials square off at 7 p.m. in the Tournament's second semifinal contest from Des Moines, Iowa.
