Brookshaw, BSU shuts out Gophers

Bemidji State rode an outstanding performance from junior Emily Brookshaw who backstopped the Beavers to a hard fought 2-0 win over No. 8 Minnesota at Ridder Arena Friday night.

Brookshaw stopped 28 Gopher shots in recording her tenth win of the year.

"We had a solid team effort tonight," said BSU head coach Steve Sertich. "Everyone contributed in the win. (Brookshaw) was outstanding in net for us and everyone won a lot of battles for us that enabled us to clear the zone when we had to."

BSU (11-15-5, 9-12-4 WCHA) started the scoring just 3:55 into the game as Jessica Pullar rapped in a blind backhand from the slot. Pullar was able to get off a strong shot in traffic that surprised UM goalie Kris Hanlon. Jenn Sadler and Wendy Bergh picked up assists on the only scoring play by either team in the first period.

It took the Beavers less than three minutes to make it 2-0 in the second as Sadler scored on an odd goal. Kate Robinson started the play by getting off a strong shot that Hanlon was able to stop. Sadler went to the net hard and was taken down in front of the net, landing on the puck. Her momentum carried Sadler and the puck into the net.

That was to be all the scoring from either team as the Beavers picked up their second straight win at Ridder Arena.

Minnesota (19-9-1 16-8-1 WCHA) out-shot the Beavers by a narrow 28-25 margin for the game. The team combined for only eight minor penalties in the well played game. BSU had five penalties, while UM was whistled for three. Neither team was able to convert on the power play.

With the win the Beavers now stand 2-28-3 against the Gophers and 2-2 in their last four.
