Beverly June Schmunk, 78

Beverly June Schmunk, 78, of Anchorage, formerly of Bemidji, died on Thursday, March 2, 2006, at her home. A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. on March 6 at Central Lutheran church. The Alaska Cremation Center assisted the family with arrangements.

Beverly June Schmunk, 78, of Anchorage, formerly of Bemidji, died on Thursday, March 2, 2006, at her home.

A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. on March 6 at Central Lutheran church. The Alaska Cremation Center assisted the family with arrangements.

She was born on June 30, 1927, in Cass Lake. She was raised in Bemidji. She graduated from Bemidji High School and later earned her nursing degree from the University of Minnesota. During her career as a nurse, she worked at Cass Lake Hospital and Bemidji Hospital. She married Harry Schmunk on Nov. 5, 1948, in Bemidji.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Bemidji, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Altar Guild. After moving to Alaska in August 2001, she attended Central Lutheran Church where she was an Altar Guild member. While living in Bemidji, she volunteered at the American Legion. She enjoyed Bridge club, doing jigsaw puzzles with family, visiting family in California, Alaska, Minnesota, South Dakota and Nevada, spending time with the family dogs and other pets and crossword puzzles. She enjoyed volunteering for church and the American Legion. She also enjoyed reminiscing with family and about family gatherings and fun events.

She is survived by her husband; sons, Gary (DeAnne) Schmunk of Fairbanks and Lee (Virginia) Schmunk of Spearfish, S.D.; daughter, Judy (Larry) Helgeson of Anchorage; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sisters, Ellen (Ralph) Ransom and Zona (Jerry) Bly, both of Escondido, Calif.; and a sister-in-law.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Central Lutheran Church Altar Guild and Bemidji First Lutheran Church.
