As anticipated, Bemidji drew the top seed for the Section 8AA girls hockey tournament and will open at BSU Saturday night.

Bemidji went unbeaten against section foes this winter and takes a 19-5-1 mark into play.

Defending champion Moorhead is seeded second followed by Elk River, St. Cloud Tech, North Wright County, Apollo, Brainerd, Buffalo, River Lakes and Sartell.

Two play-in games Thursday send River Lakes to Buffalo and Sartell to Brainerd.

The Saturday quarterfinals will have Bemidji hosting the Buffalo-River Lakes winner and Wright Country at St. Cloud Tech in the upper bracket.

In the lower bracket Moorhead entertains the Brainerd-Sartell winner and Elk River is home with the Apollo-Cathedral Icebreakers.

Action shifts to Alexandria for the semifinals Feb. 13 with the upper bracket game at 6:30 and the lower bracket contest at 8:30.

The title game will also be played at Alex Feb. 16 starting at 7.

Moorhead beat Bemidji 6-1 in last year's final after dropping both regular season games to Bemidji during the year.

This year Bemidji again swept the Spuds 4-2 and 5-2. It holds 4-0 and 7-2 wins over Buffalo and River Lakes.
