Brian Ball announced on Friday that he will run for the position of Beltrami County sheriff in the upcoming election.
He is currently an investigator with the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff Keith Winger announced his plan Thursday to retire at the conclusion of his current term. His successor will be sworn in on Jan. 4.
Ball said in a press release that he has been a resident of Bemidji since 1977. He is a 1980 graduate of Bemidji State University with a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice. He worked with the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office for 25 years. In addition to investigations, Ball said he helped plan the new Law Enforcement Center and purchase and implement new software for the computer system and dispatch center.
"As sheriff, if I am elected, I plan to continue the crackdown on meth and be aggressive with drug enforcement," Ball said in his announcement. "I will also continue the work against child abuse and provide the type of service that the public expects from their sheriff's office."
