DETROIT LAKES-A Bagley man has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony financial transaction card fraud.
According to court records, on May 27, 2017, a West Fargo, N.D., woman reported the theft of items from her purse, including her debit card, during a gathering at her home. She believed the theft was done by a late-arriving group that included Winston Eugene Stevens, 32, of Bagley.
Stevens was caught a few hours later on surveillance video at Walmart using the woman's debit card several times for a total of $715.62.
He appeared in court March 27 before District Judge Gretchen Thilmony, who stayed imposition of sentence and placed him on supervised probation for five years.
He was ordered to serve 21 days in jail, with credit granted for 21 days served, and was fined $1,000, plus $1,090 in court fees, with restitution rights reserved. He was ordered to abstain from drugs and alcohol, submit to random testing and complete treatment through the White Earth substance abuse program.
