Arnold Dean Brown, 74, of Akeley, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at Bethesda Hospital in St. Paul.

The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Akeley United Methodist Church. The Rev. Gerald Alger and Rev. Chris Conger officiated. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Dennis Funeral Home in Walker. Burial will be in the Akeley Cemetery in the spring.

He was born Nov. 28, 1933, to William and Martha (Abbot) Brown at a logging camp in Backus Township. He was delivered by his father. During his early years, his family spent time between farming in Anoka and logging in Akeley. He attended school in Akeley until the eighth grade. Following his schooling, he went to work in Minneapolis learning to lay blocks in the cement business, and working as a ticket taker in a theatre. In 1956, while logging with his father in Bozeman, Mont., he met Jeraldine Kinyon, and they were married Aug. 4, 1956, in Livingston, Mont. They moved to Minneapolis, where he worked at the Advance Brass and Aluminum Foundry until 1972 when they moved to Akeley. He worked at Warner Manufacturing in Akeley until he retired in 1997. He was also an ordained minister with the House of Prayer and Praise Fellowship in Cass Lake and worked closely with the Rev. Gerald and Sue Alger at the Anishinabe Bible Chapel for 10 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening with a special fondness for apple and plum trees. He also loved traveling and taking longer trips during vacation times.

He will be remembered as a man of integrity by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Rebecca (Tim) Schroeder; sons, Douglas (Kris) Brown, Allen (Cindy) Brown, Steven (Debbie) Brown and Michael (Robin) Brown; sisters, Joyce Hollinder, Marlene (Bob) Hollinder, Donna (Carol) Stuckey, Dixie (Bob) Benson, Bonnie (Jim) Postirck and Judy (Arden) Disselbret; 21 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers; two sisters; and son, William Brown.
