Anderson Fabrics, in Blackduck, recently engaged employees in volunteering for a good cause, the American Cancer Society, with their Hat Day for Relay.
Employees were encouraged to wear hats to work and three prizes were awarded for the craziest hats that were worn. The hat theme also raises awareness of cancer in the community by acknowledging that people undergoing treatment for cancer may wear head coverings due to the side effect of hair loss with some treatments.
Anderson Fabrics has had a team with the Relay for Life of Beltrami County for several years, and last year raised $3,431 for the fight against cancer. They not only raised this significant amount of money but they were also a gold level sponsor last year and provided in-kind donations for the luminary candle blocks. Cheryl Hoyum and Heather Frenzel are the 2010 team captains.
Donations raised through Relay for Life support the research, education, advocacy and patient support through the American Cancer Society. There is 24-hour assistance and information related to cancer available by calling 1-800-ACS-2345 or online at www.cancer.org .
