BEMIDJI-The Sanford Bemidji Diabetes Center was recently awarded the American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Certificate for its quality diabetes self-management education program. This certificate assures that educational programs meet the national standards for diabetes self-management education.
According to the ADA, there are 29.1 million Americans who have diabetes, which also is the seventh leading cause of death in the U.S.
Programs such as the one at Sanford Bemidji have a staff of knowledgeable health professionals who provide patients with comprehensive information about diabetes management, a press release said. Participants in the program are educated on topics including understanding diabetes; healthy eating; being active; medications; monitoring glucose; and preventing, detecting and treating chronic and acute complications.
