Allery awarded John Marshall award

Gina Allery, daughter of Margaret DeMers of Bemidji, was awarded  a John Marshall award, the U.S. Department of Justice highest award offered to attorneys, for contributions and excellence in specialized areas of legal performances. Allery serves as the Senior Counsel for Indian Affairs within the Office of the Assistant Attorney General. Allery, along with the rest of Bay Mills Indian Community team, received the award for its outstanding win in a case by the State of Michigan (State) that presented a direct, frontal assault on the concept of tribal sovereign immunity from suit in the absence of congressional authorization.
