Alice Brown, 77, of Red Lake, died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at the Red Lake Indian Hospital.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the St. Mary's Mission Catholic Church in Red Lake with the Rev. Patrick Sullivan officiating. A wake will begin at 3 p.m. today at the Red Lake Community Center and will continue until the time of the service. Burial will be in the family burial grounds in Red Lake. The Cease Family Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Active pallbearers will be Arn May, Jason Siddens, Justin Desjarlait, Jarod White, Jeffrey Brown and Jeremy Brown.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gail Stillday, Edwina Neadeau, Patricia Needham, Roberta Shohn, Missy Beaulieu and Joyce Brown.
She was born Aug. 12, 1930, to Irene Stillday Sumner Augustine in Red Lake. She was employed as a nursing assistant and also a cook for the Indian Health Service in Red Lake, and she finished her career as the head cook at the Acomita Canoncito Laguna Hospital in San Fidel, N.M., in 1990. She was also a state food inspector for the state of New Mexico for 10 years until her retirement in 1990. She and her husband then returned to live in Red Lake. She enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren. She had a passion for playing bingo.

She is survived by her husband David Brown Sr.; children, Wayne (Rhonda), David Jr. Earl, Patrick Brown, Ramona (Melvin) Feather and Carol Brown; and step-son, Bruce (Georgia) Roy.
She was preceded in death by her mother; siblings; and children, Dorla, Julius and Angela Brown.
