Bemidji man dies following Wednesday car crash
BEMIDJI -- A 74-year-old Bemidji man died Friday from injuries he suffered during a car crash Wednesday evening on U.S. Highway 2 in Hubbard County.
Duane Lillevold, was driving a 2002 Jeep Cherokee south on Vagabond Loop on Wednesday, May 7. When he started to cross the westbound lane of U.S. Highway 2, he collided with a 2008 Jeep Liberty driven by a 40-year-old woman from Bemidji. Lillevold’s Cherokee spun and rolled into the median ditch, according to a report from the Minnesota State Patrol. The accident was reported to the patrol at 9:23 p.m. Wednesday. Lillevold was taken to Sanford Health in Bemidji with life-threatening injuries. Lillevold reportedly died Friday morning, the patrol said in an update.
The woman and a 14-year-old female passenger also were transported to Sanford with non-life threatening injuries. The Cherokee's airbags deployed, but those in the Liberty did not. All three people were wearing their seatbelts. Alcohol was not involved in the incident, according to the report.
