Central Minnesota man killed, another injured in overnight crash

MELROSE, Minn. - A 34-year-old Melrose man was killed and another man was injured during a single-vehicle crash west of Melrose early Tuesday morning, April 9.

Pedro Gomez Dela Cruz was found dead outside a rolled vehicle, the Stearns County Sheriff's Office said. While responding to the 2:56 a.m. crash, a Melrose police officer located a 38-year-old Melrose man walking eastbound, Luis Valencia, who suffered injuries that were not life-threatening in the crash.

Authorities said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.

The sheriff's office said a 2005 Dodge Durango appeared to be traveling southeast on County Road 186 and failed to negotiate a curve. It entered a ditch and struck a field approach.
