Man walking on tracks killed by train
ST. PAUL - A 47-year-old man died after being struck by a train early Wednesday in St. Paul, according to officials.
It happened about 4 a.m. June 13 as he was walking on the tracks and not at a crossing, said Amy McBeth, BNSF Railway spokeswoman.
St. Paul firefighters and police officers were called to the collision near Point Douglas Road and Springside Drive, which is south of Lower Afton Road. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.
The workers reported that the man “appeared to notice the train as it approached and he attempted to back away from the tracks to the west, but was not able to clear the area before being struck by the train,” Linders said.
