BEMIDJI --Minnesota Public Radio's chief meteorologist will be the guest speaker when MPR Connects! comes to Bemidji for an event on Thursday, Oct. 17 at the Hampton Inn & Suites.

Huttner was hired by MPR News in 2007 as its first chief meteorologist. He launched daily weather chats on its 40-plus station network and also created the Updraft blog. In 2013, Huttner started MPR News’ award-winning weekly radio show Climate Cast, which focuses on climate change news, science and solutions.

As a resident Minnesotan, Huttner has an understanding of Minnesota’s local weather and climate. His work focusing on climate vulnerability has provided insight into the greatest factors of climate change that Minnesotans face, as well as strategies to mitigate some of those risks.

The Bemidji stop is one of four free MPR Connects! events this fall in Greater Minnesota. The public is welcome to attend and learn more about the whys of weather and climate beyond the forecast. There is no charge for admission, but space is limited, so online pre-registration is requested at mpr.org/mprconnects. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The program will be from 6-7 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer period.
