BEMIDJI-- Here is a look at the events taking place on Sunday, Sept. 15, at Lake Bemidji State Park, 3401 State Park Road NE:

  • 10 to 11 a.m. Morning Meditation: Poetry in the Park. Practice mindfulness among the maple and basswood trees along the one mile loop of the Rocky Point Interpretive Trail by using the five senses to observe things along the trail. At the end of the hike, the park naturalist will guide participants on how to write a Haiku poem using the observations have collected and then there will be an opportunity for each person to share their poem with the group. Meet at the Rocky Point Interpretive Trail sign. The dirt trail is rough, has some steep terrain and has some steps.

  • 1 to 2 p.m. Nature Games: Kids of all ages are welcome to come play a variety of nature games at the park playground. Some of the games will include Bird Bingo, Run- For-Your-Lifecycle, and Predator-Prey Tag.

  • 4 to 7 p.m. Royal Court 4-on-4 Sand Volleyball Tournament: Join the Friends of Lake Bemidji State Park group as they celebrate the upgraded outdoor volleyball court at Lake Bemidji State Park with a Royal Court 4-on-4 Sand Volleyball Tournament. There will also be a hot dog feed for participants and volunteers. Registration will be same day only, starting at 4 p.m., with the tournament starting at 5 p.m. Teams of 4 can register for $20, with all proceeds going back to the Friends of Lake Bemidji State Park group for funding of future projects.
