BEMIDJI-The 33rd annual Bemidji Area Take a Kid Fishing event is set for Wednesday, June 5 on lakes in the Bemidji area. This event aims to introduce children to the sport of fishing.

As in the past, 80-100 local anglers will serve as guides and volunteers, donating their time, equipment and expertise.

As many as 200 children have participated in a single event, and more than 5,000 area youth have been directly influenced by this program, a release said. The children are treated to an afternoon of fishing on various area lakes and the event concludes with a fish fry at Lake Bemidji State Park for all children and parents at no cost to them.

The fishing guides will also nominate a young angler for the gift of a lifetime fishing license, as two are awarded each year.

Event applications are available online at and at the Bemidji Area Chamber of Commerce. Children must be 10-15 years of age and applications should be submitted online or mailed in by June 1, to the Bemidji Area Chamber of Commerce.
