Healing powwow planned for Aug. 16
BEMIDJI -- A healing powwow will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16, at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center, 1300 Anne St. NW. Dancer registration will begin at 2 p.m., followed by a traditional feast at 4:30 p.m. The grand entry starts at 2:30 p.m. with a pipe ceremony.
The powwow will be held with a “Men’s Grass Dance” special, followed by a “Women’s Jingle Dance.” Jason Hart from Red Lake will be the emcee and the drum groups will include Little Bear, MoTown, Big Red and Leech Lake Youth Drum and Dance. Sponsored by Sanford Bemidji, Red Lake Indian Health Service Hospital and Cass Lake Indian Health Service Hospital, the powwow is intended to honor the physicians, health care workers and holistic healers who are dedicated to promoting physical, mental and spiritual health in the region, a press release said. This event is free and open to all who would like to show respect and celebrate the diversity in the healing process.
