Northbird, Branden endorsed by DFL for Districts 2A and 2B
MAHNOMEN—The Democratic-Farmer-Labor party held its convention for Minnesota District 2 Saturday, where it endorsed two Native Americans for the 2018 House races.
Michael Northbird was endorsed by the DFL in District 2A and Karen Branden was endorsed for District 2B. District 2A includes all or parts of Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard and Lake of the Woods counties, while District 2B includes all or parts of Becker, Clearwater, Hubbard, Mahnomen, Otter Tail and Wadena counties.
Northbird lives in Farden Township near Cass Lake and Branden lives in Cotton Lake, rural Detroit Lakes.
For District 2A, Northbird received the endorsement over Port Hope Township resident and activist Soren Sorensen. Sorensen has since suspended his campaign, but has also filed a challenge to the endorsement.
The House seats are currently held by District 2A Rep. Matt Grossell, R-Clearbrook, and District 2B Rep. Steve Green, R-Fosston.
