On Sept. 8-9, students from the Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig school in grades 7-12 had the opportunity to participate in the wild rice camp set up by the school's cultural staff on the shores of Mud Goose Lake. Students were trained in canoe safety, ricing techniques, campfire cooking, knife and tool safety and rice finishing. The students also had the chance to try out ricing first-hand, taking turns at poling and knocking.
