BEMIDJI -- For more than 20 years, Gold Mine Ranch owners have been committed to bringing a family oriented, well-organized rodeo to the Bemidji area during the county fair.

“December through fair time we spend a few days a week visiting sponsors in person and try to gain community support -- you have to make sure your sponsors are taken care of,” said Gold Mine Ranch Owner Joe Waslaski. “It is a lot of those things that go on behind the scenes.”

The Gold Mine Ranch/Triple B Rodeo will be back for its 20th year at the Beltrami County Fair at 7 p.m. on Friday Aug. 9, and Saturday Aug. 10. Both performances will be held rain or shine with the covered grandstands for the audience.

Advance tickets will be on sale through Thursday Aug. 8, at noon and will save visitors $5. Tickets will be $20 for adults and tickets for children are $10 in advance and $15 at the gate. Advance tickets can be purchased at Northdale Oil North and South, Lueken’s Village Foods North and South, Pete’s Place West, Ace on the Lake and Blackduck Co-Op.

There will be no ticket refunds for any reason at this year’s rodeo. Tickets purchased may only be used for the night specified on the ticket. Participants are urged to be in the grandstands by 6:30 p.m. if they wish to sit in a group.

The rodeo events will include bareback bronc, steer wrestling, barrel racing, team roping, saddle bronc, bull riding, calf roping, over 40 calf roping and breakaway roping. To be apart of these events participants must be a member of the Minnesota Rodeo Association and sign up directly through the association.

There will also be events for children to get involved with the rodeo performance including:

  • Mutton Bustin (Sheep Riding) : The objective of this event is to have children put on a sheep and hold on while it runs across the arena. There are no placings for this event and all children will receive a prize. This event is open to any child over four years-old and under 60 pounds. There is no registration fee for this event but parents should call (218) 758-1298 to pre-register their children. Registration will be capped off at 15 participants.

  • The Calf Scramble: During this event three calves will be set loose in the arena with ribbons tied to their tails.Children that are able to grab a ribbon will win a prize. This event is open to children ages 8 to 12 years-old. There is no registration required for this event but parents will have to sign a waiver for their children to be able to participate. All children wishing to participate should be in the arena when the event is announced.

  • The Boot Scramble: Children who participate in this event will remove their boots/ shoes and go to the opposite side of the arena while the shoes are placed in a large pile. The rodeo clown will entertain the children for a few minutes then signal them to race to the pile to find their shoes. The first three children to return to the starting line with their shoes on their feet will win a prize. This event will be open to children 7 years-old and younger. No registration is required for the event and participants should be in the arena when the event is called.

“Knowing you take care of your fans, take care of your sponsors and your contestants helps make it successful,” said Waslaski. “Being able to run the event for that many years and still makes everyone happy -- it is a year long job.”
