Elsie Caroline Haiby, 75, of Bemidji, died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Bemidji with the Rev. Jim Darchuk officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home in Bemidji and one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Blackduck.

Pallbearers will be her children, Keith Haiby, Kent Haiby, Kevin Haiby, Kurt Haiby, Deborah Daly and Dawn Calvin.

She was born June 24, 1932, to Edward and Inga (Amundson) Kjella in Becida. She received her education at various schools in the surrounding area. She worked at various jobs prior to her marriage to Marvin Haiby on May 15, 1954, in Blackduck. After her marriage, they lived in Moorhead, Minn., for three years and moved back to Bemidji in 1957. They remained in Bemidji until 1980 when they moved to Blackduck and built their log home. They lived there until her husband's death in 1986. She then moved back to Bemidji. She enjoyed all types of crafts such as rosemaling, wood carving, crocheting and knitting. She was a charter member of the Sons of Norway, American Legion Auxiliary, and a member of First Lutheran Church since 1957. She also volunteered at the North County Regional Hospital.

She is survived by her sons, Keith (Catherine) Haiby of Virginia Beach, Va., Kent (Linda) Haiby of Andover, Minn., Kevin (Jodi) Haiby of Claremont, Minn., and Kurt (Margaret) Haiby of Nashwauk, Minn.; daughters, Deborah (Art) Daly of Bovey, Minn., Diane (James) Tuorila of St. Cloud, Minn., and Dawn Calvin of St. Louis Park, Minn., grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren; sister, Arlene (Ted) Carter of Blackduck; and various nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Denise; husband; four sisters; two brothers; and parents.

The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers.
