KELLIHER — A 14-year-old sustained serious injuries after their ATV crashed on Highway 72 on Sunday near Kelliher.
According to a release from the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office, at approximately 1:32 p.m. on Sunday, March 27, the dispatch center received a report of a single-vehicle ATV crash in the of Kelliher on state Highway 72.
Upon the arrival, first responders found a red Honda 300 4-wheeler operated by a 14-year-old of Kelliher.
According to the release, the driver was traveling northbound in the west ditch alongside Highway 72 approximately 1/3 of a mile south of Waldo Road when they came upon an area that had been washed out by recent melting snow.
The snow had created a two to three-foot ledge causing the ATV to flip over when the driver hit the washed-out area, the release said.

The driver was thrown from the machine and sustained serious injuries. The release noted that the driver was wearing a helmet.
The driver was flown by North Aircare to Hennepin Medical Center for treatment.
The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Blackduck Ambulance Service, North Aircare, Kelliher First Responders and the Minnesota State Patrol.
