BEMIDJI - Carol is the outrageous one. Sharon is a bit on the sassy side. There’s Liza with her marital problems. Anita can be a bit blunt, they say. And then there’s Kate, she’s the boring designated driver.
These five friends are heading out for a night on the town, and that’s the premise behind “Girls Night: The Musical,” which is coming to the Sanford Center ballroom at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8. (Doors open at 6:30 p.m.)
An off-Broadway hit, “Girls Night: The Musical” has garnered positive reviews throughout its North American and Canadian tours. According to a release, the show has been described as “Desperate Housewives meets Mamma Mia” (Applause Magazine), “a boisterous, bust-out, bawdy musical revue” (Wisconsin State Journal), “An infectious, exhilarating sense of intoxication” (Hollywood Reporter) and “As funny and outrageous as Sex in the City!” (The Advocate).”
The show follows the five friends as they head out for a night at the karaoke bar, re-living their pasts and looking forward to their futures. The musical features songs of the 80s and 90s such as “Lady Marmalade,” “It’s Raining Men,” “Man I Feel Like A Women,” “I Will Survive” and “We are Family.”
“Girls Night: The Musical” is written by Louise Roche and was a hit when it premiered in the United Kingdom in 2003. The show has been touring in the U.S. since 2007.
