Big Bass Ramblers to play in Bagley

BAGLEY-The Bagley Area Arts Collaborative announces the Big Bass Ramblers in concert today at 2 p.m. at The Farm by the Lake in Bagley.

The Big Bass Ramblers is a group of musicians from Bemidji who have been entertaining audiences in northern Minnesota with a mix of "Americana" music, including old time, folk, bluegrass, rock country and gospel. They have performed at festivals, county fairs, churches, fundraisers and other events around the region. The group includes Jay Forney on guitar and vocals, Vickie Ambuehl on vocals, Dennis Doeden on banjo and vocals and Fred Ambuehl on bass.

Weather permitting; they will perform on the lawn overlooking Lake Lomond. Bring your lawn chair. In case of rain, the concert will be in the picnic shelter. Admission is free.

This concert is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Region 2 Arts Council funded by an appropriation from the state Legislature.

Deadline nears for grants

BEMIDJI - The deadline to apply for the R2AC/McKnight Career Development Fellowship grants is Sept. 15.

There will be an after-hours grant application support gathering from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Region 2 Arts Council in the Carnegie Library in downtown Bemidji.

Grants are for area artists who have a minimum five-year history of sustained accomplishment in their chosen artistic field in the five-county area of Region 2. Two $6,000 fellowship awards are granted each yer.

Art fundraiser for food shelf

BEMIDJI- Bemidji artist Jane Freeman is partnering with the Bemidji Community Food Shelf and First Lutheran Church to hold an art sale to benefit the food shelf.

The event will be held 3 to 7 p.m. Sept. 10 at First Lutheran Church, 900 Bemidji Ave. N.

Prints and originals Freeman's acclaimed watercolors will be for sale to the public at greatly reduced prices, a release said. In addition, the event will include refreshments and live music.

Freeman is an internationally recognized watercolor artist and authored a book, "A Celebration of Light," on her watercolor techniques and has been published in many art magazines and art books. Her studio is on Movil Lake where she has lived with her husband Andy for 43 years.
