BACM presents next summer recital on July 10
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji Area Church Musicians summer recital series will continue at noon on Wednesday, July 10, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 2220 Anne St. NW.
The concert will feature John Konecne on saxophone and Julie Bengtson on piano. The 30-minute program will include music by Telemann and Britten, and three works by Argentinian composer, Astor Piazzolla. Konecne has been playing the saxophone since he was 10 years old and has a bachelor’s degree in jazz studies from BSU. He occasionally plays in a jazz quartet and currently teaches private saxophone lessons, a release said.
A luncheon will follow the concert with a price to be announced. A free-will offering will be received at the door for the Scholarship and Fellowship programs of the Bemidji Area Church Musicians.
Businessmen’s Fellowship America to meet
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji Area Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship America will meet at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 6, at the Beltrami Electric Cooperative Community Room, 4111 Technology Drive.
A light breakfast will be served. The guest speaker will be Raymond Clyde, director of Worldwide Ministries, of Bemidji. Worldwide Ministries provides opportunities for missionaries and churches to serve communities, a press release said. Clyde, in his earlier years, was a self-employed logger and bar owner in Laporte during the 1960s and 70s. In 1983, Clyde was called into the ministry and started Christ Gospel Fellowship in Laporte, which he pastored for 11 years. In 1994, he resigned as senior pastor of Christ Gospel Fellowship and accepted the position as director of Worldwide Ministries. In July, after 25 years of service at Worldwide Ministries, Clyde will be retiring at the age of 81.
Aardahl Lutheran Church to hold summer festival
BEMIDJI -- Aardahl Lutheran Church will hold their Summer Music and BBQ Festival from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 14. Cost for adults is $8, free for children 10 and younger. Music will be performed by Antonio Arce, Not Your Average Family Band, John Henningsgaard & Friends, and Figuring It Out (Abello Family). Barbeque pulled pork sandwiches, beans, cole slaw, chips and Pepsi products will be served. Aardahl Lutheran Church is located at 2920 Van Buren Ave. SE.
Bemidji Area Women's Dinner set for July 15
BEMIDJI--Area women are invited to the Christian Women's Dinner at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 15, at the Eagles Club, 1270 Neilson Ave. SE, back entrance.
Along with the meal, the program will feature patriotic and gospel music with Karen Stish and family: Samuel on violin, Anna on flute, and dad, Wayne Johnson, on violin. The speaker will be Joyce Yexley from West Fargo, N.D. She will share her story: "A Broken Dream--From Fiery Trial to New Purpose." Cost of the meal and program is $12.
