BEMIDJI -- A public forum and discussion about changing the rules of the Bemidji Skate Park rules regarding the use of scooters and other “wheels” at the park is set for next week.
The Parks and Recreation Commission will host the discussion at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, at the Public Works/Parks Office, 1351 Fifth St. NW. Members of the public are encouraged to attend the meeting to address their questions or contact the Parks and Recreation Department with comments prior to the meeting.
Comments or questions may be directed to, Parks and Recreation Director Marcia Larson via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (218) 333-1850.
Local skaters and parents have given input into the features and work that has been done on the park since the community, grassroots project was completed in 2010.
Nine years later, the skatepark is being used by both scooters and skateboarders, officials said in a release. The park was created in a plaza style with many lanes for increased visibility and limited collisions. Both scooters and skateboards can be accommodated at the park but the main point of discussion for scooters is related to etiquette and ability, the release said.
