Watermark to host reception for Ojibwe artist

BEMIDJI -- Watermark Art Center will host an artist reception for the exhibit “Indanishinaabekwew – I am an Anishinaabe Woman” by award-winning Ojibwe artist Hillary Kempenichfrom from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 10. An artist talk will be held at 6 p.m. The exhibit, on display in Watermark's Miikanan Gallery through June 23, represents a continuing journey of self-discovery, family history and the empowering of Native Nations, a press release said.

Kempenich, a member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, currently resides in Grand Forks, N.D. She is an established studio artist and advocate for the arts, education, social justice, and Native issues, the release said.
