Wayne Howard Sauer
Wayne Howard Sauer, 67, of Lake Itasca, Minn., died Sunday, March 8, 2009, at Veterans Hospital in Fargo, N.D.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Faith Lutheran Church in Bagley with John Omans and Mardy Schermerhorn officiating. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., with a family service at 7 p.m. Thursday at Cease Family Funeral Home in Bagley. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery near Lake Itasca. Military rites will be accorded by Irvin Blix American Legion Post No. 16 of Bagley
He was born Sept. 4, 1941, to Glen and Hazel (Sletten) Sauer in Chicago. He moved to Glyndon, Minn., with his parents after World War II. He worked on several farms in the area and attended high school. He volunteered for the U.S. Marines and served from 1959-63 in the Vietnam Theater. He married Carol Bjerke Oct. 31, 1964, at the Lutheran church in Leonard and they settled in the Bagley area. From there, the family moved to Pelican Rapids, Minn., and Great Falls, Mont., where he continued to pursue a career in carpentry. The family moved back to the Lake Itasca area in 1978, where he and his wife resided until his death. He enjoyed the outdoors including fishing, camping and deer hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Sauer of Lake Itasca; sons, Marvin (Julie) Sauer of Lake Itasca and Bryan (Ami) Sauer of Bemidji; daughters, Joan Smith of Hohenwald, Tenn., and Jeanette (Darris) Dahl of Lake Itasca; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Judy Olm.
