Louise Ann Norden-West

Louise Ann Norden-West, 74, of Bemidji, died on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at her home in Autumn Hills of Bemidji.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Philip's Catholic Church in Bemidji, with the Rev. Vincent Miller officiating, assisted by the Rev. Mark Papke-Larson. A visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m., with a prayer service at 6 p.m., Sunday at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Bemidji.

The pallbearers will be Casey Norden, Kyle Norden, Jesse Goodell and John Snider.

She was born May 27, 1934, to Clifford and Sophia (Duffy) Snider in Bemidji. She attended St. Philip's School and graduated from Bemidji High School in 1953. During her teenage years, she worked at the family business, Snider's Café. She married Clifford "Kip" Norden on March 28, 1956. She continued working at the restaurant while raising her family. She was a proofreader for the Bemidji Pioneer for 10 years. When Kip died in 1974, she cooked at St. Philip's school cafeteria, eventually making the decision to purchase Snider's Café in 1976. She operated the café until her retirement in 1990. After her retirement, she took care of her mother, Sophia, until her death in 1995.

She married James Marvin West on Dec. 12, 1998. They spent their retirement years traveling and spending time with their extended families. They loved entertaining, music and cooking. She enjoyed celebrating St. Patrick's Day and passed on the tradition to her grandchildren, teaching them the art of singing the Irish tunes.

She is survived by her husband, James Marvin West of Bemidji; son, Michael (Anita) Norden of Bemidji; daughter, Julie Higley of Phoenix; brothers, Charles "Bud" (Rita) Snider of St. Paul, Minn., and Allen (Sue) Snider of Bemidji; sisters, Phyllis (Forrest Mallette) Mandell-Mallette of Phoenix, Mary Jane (Cliff) Marcum of Boise, Idaho, and Margaret "Peggy" (Nick) Bonovich of Bemidji; three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; step-daughters, Cheryl (James) Rider of Centerville, Ohio, and Gale (David) Maguire of Accokeek, Md.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifford; sister, Donna Morgan and a step-daughter, Karen West.
