Indoor football: Axemen add four players to roster

BEMIDJI — Last week the Bemidji Axemen added four players to the roster, signing three new players and trading for another.

Axemen officials acquired wide receiver Ryan Balentine in a trade with the Green Bay Blizzard. Green Bay will receive future considerations.

Last year Balentine, who played collegiately at Southern Mississippi, finished second in the league with 74 receptions and was third in receiving yards with 834.

The Axemen also signed defender DeQuan Starling of Marshall University who played five games last year with Green Bay.

The team also signed wide receiver Darnell Williams and quarterback Joshua Aakre. Williams played his college football at Louisiana College (an NCAA III program) while Aakre had a four-year quarterback career at Bethel of the MIAC. He was signed after participating in open tryout sessions earlier this winter.

While at Bethel Aakre completed 367 of 668 passes for 4,762 yards and 43 touchdowns.
