Berglioth "Bergie" Ostlund

Berglioth "Bergie" Annette Ostlund,93, of Bagley, MN died on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at the Garden Place in Bagley, MN.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 21, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Bagley, MN with the Pastor Rick Moore officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be at the Bagley City Cemetery in Bagley, MN. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.

Bergie was born on January 17, 1921 at Twin Valley, MN the daughter of Theodore and Thora (Ekvall) Thompson. She attended Cheerful Nook Rural School in Flom, MN until 8th grade. Bergie attended Mahnomen High School graduating in 1938. Following graduation, for two years, she attended Moorhead State Teachers College and taught in a rural school in Norman County for several years. During World War II, in the summer of 1943 she moved to Seattle, WA and was employed at Boeing Aircraft Factory until the fall of 1944. After returning from Washington, she taught 5th and 6th grade in Lake Park, MN. In the fall of 1945, she entered the University of Minnesota to pursue a degree graduating in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics. She then taught Home Economics at Wadena, Sebeka and Motley. Bergie married Ken Ostlund on July 29, 1950 at Flom, MN. In 1956, they moved to Bagley and in 1966, she re-entered the teaching field and taught at Bagley High School until her retirement in 1983. Ken passed away on January 15, 2001.

Bergie has belonged to the Just-a-Mere Club for over 20 years and has held the offices of president, secretary, treasurer and home counselor plus treasurer of the county home council. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, quilting and doing all kinds of handiwork. Bergie also enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening and flowers, bowling and playing golf. Bergie was very active in her church, Calvary Evangelical Free Church and in 4-H. She was a past member of the American and Minnesota Home Economics Association.

Son James (Jill) Ostlund of Arden Hills, MN

Son Glenn (Robin) Ostlund of Bemidji, MN

6 grand children Melinda Irons, Mark Ostlund, Emily (Ryan) Cairl, Beth (Robert) Baird, David Ostlund, Lauren Ostlund

2 great grandchildren Josephine and Benjamin Baird

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers Marshall Thompson and Marvin Thompson, and sister Ebba Stensgaard.
