BEMIDJI — The Bemidji Parks and Recreation Department will host a Writing with Friends workshop from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, at the Carnegie Library, 317 Fourth St. NW.

"Gateless Writing is a methodology developed and informed by science and ancient wisdom. If you have attempted writing at all you know that we are supposed to embrace critique and our writing will grow," a release said. "What we often experience instead is a shutting down of our creativity, and even a belief that we have nothing to offer."

The class will be instructed by Annette Drewes, Ph.D., who is trained in the fields of biology and environment, and found her passion in the woods and on the water. A resident of Bemidji for 28 years, her writing can be found at wildricevoices.com and in the Minnesota Conservation Volunteer, the release said.

The cost to participate is $6 per person.

Our newsroom sometimes reports stories under the byline "Pioneer Staff Report." This byline is used when reporters rewrite basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as an email or press release that requires little or no reporting.

Other times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
