BEMIDJI — The Bemidji Parks and Recreation Department invites the community to a Town Hall meeting to learn more about the draft Equity-Based Parks and Trails Strategic System Plan from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the shelter in City Park, 1230 23rd St. as well as online.
A formal program will be presented at 5:30 p.m. Snacks and door prizes will be available for all who attend.
“Last spring we heard what a broad section of the community wanted in their recreation system through a survey,” Parks and Rec Director Marcia Larson said in a release. “Our team, including the volunteer Parks and Recreation Commission, has worked hard to draft a plan that accomplishes what the community wants. This is the public’s chance to let us know how we did.”
The Town Hall will be broadcast live at jfc.mysocialpinpoint.com/bemidji-parks-and-rec, which will be available for up to two weeks after the Town Hall.
Whether participating in person or online, everyone will have an opportunity to share their reactions to the draft plan. In addition to the Town Hall, the department has been holding a number of focus groups with community members, which has helped fine-tune the plan’s focus on equal access to quality parks and trails, the release said.

The Strategic System Plan was last updated in 2011. Since then, the Parks and Recreation Commission has worked with the department toward the completion of several facility improvements and launching a very successful recreation program. Updating the plan is vital to meeting the needs of the growing community, the release added.
